Soldier Assaults TheCable Journalist in Lagos Traffic

Olalekan Fakoyejo, a journalist with TheCable, reported an assault by a soldier during a traffic incident in the Ogba area of Lagos on a Saturday. The altercation began when a tricycle attempted to maneuver around a soldier directing traffic.

The soldier allegedly tried to punish the tricycle driver by ordering him to climb onto the vehicle's roof, causing a traffic disruption. Fakoyejo intervened, leading to the soldier threatening him and attempting to physically assault him.

Eyewitnesses recorded the incident, showing the soldier repeatedly shoving Fakoyejo and damaging his phone, which was thrown to the ground, shattering the screen. Passersby urged Fakoyejo to leave the scene to avoid further confrontation.

The incident has raised concerns about the recurring issue of military personnel assaulting civilians in Nigeria. The military spokesperson, Appolonia Anel, has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
