Nigerian Soldiers Rescue Abducted Clergyman in Enugu Operation

In Enugu, Nigerian soldiers rescued clergyman Johnson Anayo Onugwu, who was abducted by unknown gunmen in Ezimo Community, Udenu Local Government Area, on January 29, 2026, at 1 am. The operation was carried out by a joint security team, including troops from the 82 Division Garrison.

The soldiers engaged in a fierce gun battle with the kidnappers in the Itabolo General Area and Okpakek Community. During the operation, one suspect was neutralized, and the clergyman was successfully rescued.

The soldiers also recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The Nigerian Army remains committed to safeguarding lives and properties and will continue to deny criminal elements the freedom to operate within the joint task force area of responsibility.
