Nigerian Army Rescues Abducted Clergyman in Enugu in Successful Operation

The Nigerian Army, as part of the Joint Task Force in the South-East, executed a successful operation in Enugu, rescuing Reverend Johnson Onugwu who was abducted by gunmen in Ezimo community, Udenu local government area on January 29, 2026. The operation, driven by credible intelligence, led troops to track the kidnappers to the Itabolo general area where a gun battle ensued in Okpakek community, resulting in the neutralization of the kidnappers and the safe rescue of Reverend Onugwu unharmed.

Additionally, the security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and twenty rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, vowing to continue denying criminal elements freedom of action within its area of responsibility.
