South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe Bid for AFCON 2028

South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe have officially submitted a joint bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), as confirmed by Botswana Football Association (BFA) President and Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) President Tariq Babitseng. Babitseng expressed confidence in the Southern African region's ability to successfully organize the tournament, citing the necessary infrastructure and organizational capacity.

He aligned the bid with the vision of Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe, who advocates for opportunities for all regions to host AFCON. Babitseng stated, “We have put in a bid and we are confident with the infrastructure we have, as well as the vision of CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe.” The joint proposal leverages South Africa’s experience in hosting major international competitions, including the 1996 AFCON and the 2010 FIFA World Cup, alongside the growing football infrastructure in Botswana and Zimbabwe.
