Sowore Challenges MTN CEO's Unlimited Data Claims

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, criticized Karl Toriola, the CEO of MTN Nigeria, for his assertion that unlimited mobile data plans are not feasible globally unless consumers pay exorbitant prices. During a press conference in Lagos, Toriola stated that unlimited data plans are not sustainable for mobile networks and that no such plans exist anywhere in the world without high costs.

Sowore countered this claim, arguing that millions of consumers worldwide enjoy truly unlimited mobile data at affordable prices relative to local incomes. He emphasized that Nigerians deserve reliable and genuinely consumer-friendly telecommunications services, rather than facing endless tariff hikes and poor network quality.

Sowore hinted at a possible nationwide protest against MTN, calling Toriola's claims false and advocating for better consumer experiences in Nigeria's telecommunications market. He also pointed out that MTN Nigeria's recent tariff adjustments, approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission, would lead to a 50% increase in voice and data tariffs.
