Spanish Police Investigate Racist Chants at Friendly Match

Spanish police are currently investigating racist and xenophobic chants that were reported during the first half of a friendly match between Spain and Egypt, which ended in a 0-0 draw at RCDE Stadium in Barcelona. The incident occurred on Tuesday, with a message displayed on the stadium screen warning fans against such xenophobic remarks.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has condemned the anti-Muslim chants, emphasizing their stance against racism in football and violence within stadiums. Spain's coach, Luis de la Fuente, labeled the chants as intolerable and violent, asserting that football should serve as a space for all individuals, free from societal issues.

The match was significant as Spain prepares to co-host the next World Cup in 2030, and it followed a recent 3-0 friendly win against Serbia. De la Fuente made ten changes to the lineup for the match against Egypt, retaining Barcelona winger Lamin Yamal, while Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah played for Egypt.
