Speaker Abbas Hails Successful Rescue of Oyo Abductees

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, commended the successful rescue of 39 pupils and seven teachers abducted by terrorists in Oyo State. He described their safe return as a welcome end to a tragic episode and praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership during the rescue efforts.

Tajudeen also lauded Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for his cooperation with federal security agencies throughout the operation. He noted that the success of the operation has strengthened public confidence in the nation's security architecture.

The abduction occurred on May 15, 2026, when terrorists attacked the Grammar School Ahoro and the Esiel Baptist Nursery Primary School in the Oriir Local Government Area, resulting in the death of a teacher and the reported beheading of another. Following the rescue, eight suspects were arrested, and several others were neutralized.

Tajudeen called for intensified efforts to safeguard schools and protect Nigerians held captive across the country.
