Lagos Speaker, APC, NAWOJ Celebrate Rescue of Kidnapped Students

On May 15, 2026, a rescue operation successfully freed 39 students and seven teachers who had been kidnapped in Oriir Local Government Area, Oyo State. Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, along with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), expressed their satisfaction with the operation.

Obasa described the rescue as a significant victory and commended President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian police, and the Nigerian Army for their swift coordination. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde was also acknowledged for his efforts in ensuring the safe return of the victims.

NAWOJ Chairperson Omolola Alamu emphasized the need for improved security measures in schools, particularly in rural areas, to prevent future incidents. The APC urged the government to take necessary steps to protect lives and property in the state, highlighting the trauma experienced by the families of the victims during the 56 days of their abduction.
