Speaker Abbas mourns victims of Maiduguri bomb blasts

Speaker Abbas Tajudeen expressed deep sorrow and condemned the deadly suicide bomb blasts that struck Maiduguri, Borno State, on Monday, resulting in the deaths of at least 23 individuals and injuring 108 others. In a statement posted on Tuesday, Speaker Abbas conveyed his heavy heart upon receiving news of the tragic incident, which occurred in a city already familiar with grief and loss.

The bomb blasts targeted a civilian area, including a market and the entrance to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), around the time of iftar, when Muslims break their daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan. The Borno State Police Command confirmed the casualties and injuries from the attack, which follows a recent increase in violence in the region, including assaults on military outposts.

The Nigerian Army has raised concerns about the potential deployment of multiple suicide bombers in Maiduguri, suspected to be linked to Boko Haram terrorists, urging residents to avoid crowded places.
