SSANU and NASU Launch Indefinite Strike Over Salaries

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) have initiated an indefinite strike following the federal government's inability to finalize ongoing negotiations. This decision was made by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the two unions and was communicated in a letter dated April 30, 2026.

The letter, signed by NASU General Secretary Peter Adeyemi and SSANU President Moham Ibrahim, was addressed to the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, who acknowledged receipt of the correspondence. The unions expressed their dissatisfaction with the government's failure to present a fresh offer that would allow for a 30 percent increase in consolidated non-teaching staff salaries.
