Abebe Donates Cricket Gear to Revive St. Gregory's Legacy

Dr. John Abebe, a former president of the Nigeria Cricket Federation and alumnus of St.

Gregory's College, donated cricket equipment to the school on Sunday during an event aimed at reviving its sporting legacy. The donation is part of a broader effort led by the Old Boys Association, represented by President Franci Oluwol Kudayah, to restore the school's historical reputation for producing notable athletes.

The initiative follows previous unsuccessful attempts to revitalize sports at the institution. The cricket project represents the first phase of a wider sports revival program, with plans to employ two cricket coaches to train students and modernize the sports field.

Dr. Abebe emphasized the importance of encouraging young boys to embrace cricket, while Dr.

Uyi Akpata, current president of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, praised Abebe's long-standing contributions to cricket development in Nigeria. The initiative aims to produce competitive school cricket teams capable of participating in local competitions and future inter-collegiate tournaments.
