Stakeholders Strengthen Nigeria's Social Protection System

On Thursday, stakeholders in Nigeria's social protection sector convened in Abuja for the Second ACT Naija multi-stakeholder briefing session and national advisory working group meeting. The meeting included representatives from the federal and state governments, the European Union, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.

Dr Bernard M. Doro, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, represented by Garba Magaji, emphasized the One Humanitarian–One Poverty Reduction Response System (OHOPRS) aimed at improving coordination among various initiatives.

Chioma Osuji, Programme Manager of the European Union, acknowledged progress but highlighted challenges such as weak coordination and limited information sharing. Rev David Ugolor, executive director of ANEEJ, noted significant progress since the inaugural meeting in November 2025, particularly in community engagement and capacity-building for civil society organizations monitoring cash transfer programs.

The session aimed to strengthen accountability and enhance collaboration to improve the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.
