Hope Alive Initiative Urges Action on State Policing

The Hope Alive Initiative (HAI) praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his dedication to tackling Nigeria's security challenges and called for expedited action on the establishment of state police. In a press statement issued on Wednesday by HAI's Director of Press Communication, Ernest Omoareloji, the group highlighted that state policing is crucial for enhancing citizen participation in security matters, aligning with Nigeria's federal system.

HAI noted that several states already operate regional security outfits, which require legislative backing to function effectively and complement federal security efforts. The initiative welcomed the Nigeria Governor Forum's submission of a proposed state police framework to the National Security Adviser and urged governors to support existing security architectures to address ongoing security challenges.

HAI also acknowledged recent security cooperation agreements between the United States, United Kingdom, and France aimed at providing Nigeria with advanced training and technology support. The group reiterated that security is foundational for development and called for collective efforts to build a safer environment that attracts investment.
