Deadline Extended for National Policing Bill Submissions

The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill has announced an extension of the deadline for the submission of memoranda and position papers regarding the proposed legislation to Friday, August 21, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. This announcement was made in a statement signed by Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President and Chairman of the Presidential Working Group.

The extension is intended to provide interested individuals, institutions, and organizations with sufficient time to contribute meaningfully to the legislation. The Working Group emphasizes the importance of broad consultation and the inclusion of informed perspectives from Nigerians and relevant stakeholders.

The statement highlighted that developing an effective policing framework necessitates careful consideration of critical issues such as sustainable funding, command and control structures, recruitment and training standards, operational jurisdiction, inter-agency coordination, accountability mechanisms, and safeguards against political interference or abuse.
