Lagos Commissioner Warns Against Unregulated Cart Pushers

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, issued a warning to residents against patronizing unregulated cart pushers, stating that their activities lead to indiscriminate dumping on roads, medians, and drainage channels, which adversely affects the environment and flood management. This statement was made following the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Festac, attended by Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat and his wife, Oluremi Hamzat.

Wahab highlighted the state's commitment to developing a sustainable waste management system and noted that the informal waste collection by cart pushers undermines these efforts. He linked residents' willingness to pay for waste collection services to the quality provided by government-approved operators.

The ministry is actively addressing challenges at landfills and engaging with Private Sector Participation operators to enhance service delivery. Wahab stressed that maintaining a clean Lagos requires a joint effort from both the government and residents, urging individuals to take responsibility for proper waste disposal daily.
