Nigerian Lawmaker Criticizes Rating Legislators by Constituency Projects

Lawmaker Bassey Akiba from the APC representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Cross River State, expressed concerns over the rating of legislators by constituency projects. Akiba emphasized that lawmakers' primary responsibility is to make laws and ensure good governance, rather than being judged solely on project execution.

He noted that while constituency projects are beneficial, they can sometimes distract lawmakers from their core duties. Akiba outlined various initiatives in agriculture, education, and social interventions aimed at grassroots development in his constituency.

He highlighted programs such as agricultural support, educational assistance, and infrastructure improvements to enhance the lives of constituents. Akiba also mentioned the establishment of cooperatives and empowerment programs to boost economic activities.
