Gas Leak Hospitalizes 100 Students and Teachers in Ogun

On Friday, a gas leak in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, affected around 100 students and teachers across several schools, notably Anglican Girl Grammar School and Ladi Apostolic Secondary School. Eyewitnesses reported that students were seen running from the affected schools, with some requiring medical attention due to symptoms like stomach aches and weakness.

The Ogun State Commission for Environment, led by Ola Oresanya, confirmed the incident and stated that relevant agencies were deployed to assess the situation. The air quality monitoring devices recorded elevated methane levels in the area, with readings reaching approximately 13,500 ppm.

The Ogun State Government, represented by officials including Dare Alebiosu and Kenni Bello, is committed to safeguarding public health and is conducting a multi-agency investigation to determine the source of the gas emissions. This incident follows a similar gas leak that occurred less than a month prior, which also resulted in hospitalizations.
