Ex-Chief of Naval Staff Criticizes Rivers Lawmakers Over Probe

Nigerian Navy's former Chief of Naval Staff, Ibas, criticized Rivers State lawmakers for probing him post his tenure. The lawmakers aimed to investigate financial transactions during the emergency rule period.

Ibas argued that the Assembly lacked the authority to probe him, citing his appointment by the President. He dismissed the probe as futile and unnecessary.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Amaewhule, led the move to investigate Ibas. The probe stemmed from concerns over spending from the consolidated revenue fund and awarding contracts during the emergency rule.

Ibas's spokesperson, Igbikiowubu, defended his stance, emphasizing the legality of his appointment and tenure supervision by the National Assembly.
