FG Sets 600,000MT Sugar Production Target for Dangote

The Nigerian government, represented by Minister of State for Industry, John Owan Enoh, has set a target for the Dangote Group to expand its sugar production capacity to 600,000 metric tons per year by 2030. This charge was issued during a visit to the Dangote Sugar Refinery (DSR) complex in Numan, Adamawa State, which is part of ongoing strategic inspections of sugar projects across the country.

Enoh emphasized that the current local sugar production is significantly below the national consumption of 1.8 million metric tons annually. He noted that the DSR is expected to contribute at least 600,000 metric tons by 2030, which is crucial for Nigeria's self-sufficiency in sugar production.

The Minister commended the efforts of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) and highlighted the need for cooperation to achieve the goals outlined in the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan (NSMP). During the visit, NSDC Executive Secretary Kamar Bakrin and Dangote Group Vice President Olakunle Alak reaffirmed their commitment to meeting the production target.
