Sultan and Vatican Collaborate Against Hate Speech in Nigeria

Emin Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), and Archbishop Paul R. Gallagher of the Vatican held a closed-door meeting to address the rising threats of hate speech and fake news in Nigeria.

They warned that these issues pose significant dangers to peace and coexistence among various faith communities. During the meeting, which included discussions with NSCIA's Deputy Secretary General, Prof.

Salisu Shehu, the leaders agreed on the necessity for religious organizations to work together to mitigate the growing trend of hate speech, particularly the increasing insults directed at respected religious leaders. They also identified the dangers posed by fake news, which can fuel unrest and instability.

The leaders called for a collective effort to confront these challenges and promote moral values among the youth, addressing a concerning trend of religious rejection among young people.
