Sunday Akere Becomes Pioneer District Governor of Lions Club

Chief Sunday Akere was inaugurated on Saturday as the pioneer District Governor of International District 404-B6 of Lions Club International during a ceremony held in Osogbo. Akere pledged to enhance humanitarian services to underserved communities and launched a fundraising initiative to raise N250 million for the “Lion House and Food Bank Project,” aimed at providing food relief and welfare support for vulnerable populations.

In his acceptance speech, Akere presented a seven-point agenda focusing on vision care, pediatric cancer, diabetes, environmental protection, youth development, hunger and disaster relief, and mental health awareness. He emphasized an open and accessible governance style, prioritizing transparency and accountability.

Dr. Charles Akinola, CEO of the South West Development Commission, delivered the keynote address, commending Lions Club for its service and expressing readiness to partner with the new district leadership for the Lion House and Food Bank Project.

Dignitaries at the event recognized Akere's emergence as a call to greater service, highlighting the importance of voluntary organizations in addressing gaps left by government.
