Eric Chelle Replaced by Habib Beye as Marseille Coach

Eric Chelle has lost his position as head coach of Olympique de Marseille, with Habib Beye appointed as his successor. This change follows a tumultuous period for the club, which included a significant 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and elimination from the Champions League group stage.

Marseille currently sits fourth in Ligue 1, trailing the leader, Lens, by 12 points. Beye, 48, has a history with the club as a former player and has recently managed Stade Rennais, where he ended a four-match winless streak.

The decision to appoint Beye comes after Chelle's tenure, which included overseeing 18 official matches with 12 wins and six draws, but two losses in penalty shootouts. Chelle had expressed interest in returning to club football despite his ongoing contract with the Nigeria Football Federation, which runs until 2027.

NFF president Ibrahim Gusau dismissed any notions of Chelle's early departure.
