Eguavoen to Lead Super Falcons in Olympic Qualifiers

Augustine Eguavoen, the former coach of the Super Eagles, is reportedly appointed to lead Nigeria’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons, on an interim basis for the upcoming 2028 Olympic qualifying matches against Comoros in October. This decision comes as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) continues its search for a permanent head coach after the resignation of Justin Madugu and his technical staff following a disappointing performance at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The NFF has faced additional challenges due to a leadership crisis, with President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, and several Executive Committee members resigning on August 27. Emmanuel Ikpeme is currently serving as the interim General Secretary, which has further delayed the appointment of a new coach.

With the Olympic qualifiers approaching, the NFF appears to be opting for an interim solution rather than waiting for a permanent appointment.
