Supreme Court Ruling Deepens PDP Factional Crisis

The Supreme Court delivered a judgment that has caused confusion within the People's Democratic Party (PDP), particularly between factions led by Tanimu Turaki and Nyesom Wike. The case, which had been highly anticipated, involved the Osun State government suing the Federal Government for withholding allocations due to local governments.

The court ruled that the Federal Government improperly seized these funds, breaching the 1999 Constitution. Justice Moham Idri, who read the lead judgment, stated that the Osun State Attorney General had no legal right to institute the case on behalf of the 30 local governments.

Despite the ruling, the Wike faction of the PDP refused to accept the decision, claiming victory, while the Samuel Anyanwu faction faced expulsion. The split decision among the six justices has left many questioning the clarity of the judgment and its implications for the party and local governance.
