Polish Teen Szubarczyk Sets World Championship Record

Michał Szubarczyk, a Polish teenager, made history by becoming the youngest player to win a World Championship match at the age of 15 years and 2 months. He achieved this milestone by defeating former women's world champion Onye Ng with a score of 10-7 in the first qualifying round held in Sheffield.

Szubarczyk surpassed the previous record set by Welsh player Liam Davis, who was 15 years and 277 days old when he achieved his victory in 2022. Szubarczyk had already made headlines as the youngest professional snooker player when he debuted on June 14, 2025.

He also holds the distinction of being the youngest player to feature at the Crucible, having reached the main draw at 17 years and 45 days in 2012. Looking ahead, Szubarczyk will face Sanderson Lam in the second qualifying round and expressed pride and excitement about his next match, aiming to become the youngest player at the Crucible, which is his primary goal.
