Lagos Taskforce Impounds 66 Motorcycles for Violations

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, led by Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele, impounded 66 commercial motorcycles, known as okadas, during an enforcement operation on Monday across various locations on Lagos Island. This operation was conducted to address violations of the state’s transport regulations, particularly illegal motorcycle operations that pose a nuisance and security threat.

The enforcement team targeted areas including CMS Bus Stop, Obalende, Osborne Roundabout, Abraham Adesanya Road, Lekki-Ajah Expressway, and Lagos Coastal Road. Akerele stated that the operators were found riding on restricted routes.

He emphasized the agency's commitment to eliminating illegal motorcycle operations through intelligence gathering and tactical enforcement. Akerele warned that future operations would also target passengers violating the law.

All impounded motorcycles will be forfeited to the Lagos State Government in accordance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, as the agency aims for full compliance.
