TCN Declares Force Majeure on Kainji-Birnin Kebbi Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) declared a force majeure event on the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi transmission line following a storm that toppled Tower T367, disrupting bulk power transmission. The incident occurred on 7 September 2026, when the line first tripped at 10:44 p.m., and a subsequent trial reclosure at 11:07 p.m. failed.

TCN's linesmen conducted a fault-finding patrol and confirmed the tower's collapse on 8 September, attributing it to heavy winds and rainstorms. TCN has initiated arrangements to mobilize personnel, equipment, and resources to rehabilitate the collapsed tower and restore service promptly.

In the meantime, TCN has ensured continued electricity transmission to Sokoto by rerouting supply through the Talata Mafara–Sokoto corridor via the 132kV Zaria–Funtua–Gusau transmission line. TCN expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to electricity consumers and stakeholders and assured efforts are underway to restore normal service as quickly as possible.
