Team Nigeria Tops African Nations at 2026 Commonwealth Games

Team Nigeria concluded the 2026 Commonwealth Games as the highest-ranked African nation, finishing in seventh place on the final medal table with a total of 24 medals, comprising 10 gold, 7 silver, and 7 bronze. The Nigerian contingent participated in 10 sports, showcasing exceptional talent particularly in athletics, para powerlifting, and field events.

Esther Nworgu initiated Nigeria's medal campaign by winning gold in the women's lightweight para powerlifting event. Ezekiel Nathaniel secured gold in the men's 400-metre hurdles, while Goodness Nwachukwu broke her own world record in the women's F42 discus throw and also won gold.

Idris Riluwan added to the medal tally with gold in the men's para powerlifting event, and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi won gold in the men's shot put. This performance underscores Nigeria's status as a leading sports nation in Africa, despite strong competition from other Commonwealth countries.
