Soldier Arrested in Borno for Alleged Terrorist Links

The Nigerian Army confirmed the arrest of Private Mohammed Yusuf, who was declared wanted for his alleged involvement in the illegal supply of military accoutrements to terrorist groups. He was apprehended by troops of the 7 Provost Group, Operation Hadin Kai, at Jidari Bus Stop, Maiduguri, on July 25, 2026, while allegedly trying to escape to the Republic of Cameroon.

Capt Muhammed Goni, the acting Military Information Officer for the Northeast Joint Taskforce Operation Hadin Kai, stated that Yusuf had absconded from his unit on July 7, 2026, and had been hiding in Maiduguri with the help of an associate. He was declared wanted on July 23, 2026.

The Nigerian Army emphasized its commitment to accountability and professionalism in counter-insurgency operations, stating that there would be no safe haven for those supporting terrorism. Yusuf is currently in custody as investigations continue to uncover the extent of his activities and identify other accomplices.
