Terrorists Kidnap Mourners, Demand N50 Million Ransom

A tragic incident occurred along the Ososo-Ajaokuta axis in Kogi State when terrorists ambushed a funeral convoy carrying the remains of Augustin O. Ikwu, a senior officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) from Benue State.

The assailants intercepted the convoy, abducting several mourners and demanding a ransom of N50 million for their release. The convoy was attacked while escorting the deceased to his hometown for burial on a Friday.

The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria, particularly along major highways. Citizen journalist and activist Meddi Olotu condemned the attack, emphasizing that even the deceased are not safe from kidnappers.

The abducted mourners were reported to have been held captive, while the remains of the late officer were later recovered in a bush around Ejul, Kogi State. As of the time of reporting, no official statement had been released by police or security agencies regarding the incident.
