NDLEA Chairman Warns of Terrorists in Cannabis-Growing Communities in Nigeria

The Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Maj. Gen.

Buba Marwa (Rtd), revealed that terrorists and kidnappers are residing in cannabis-growing communities in Nigeria. During a courtesy visit to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Ondo State, Marwa emphasized the need to engage in alternative development projects to dissuade peasant farmers from growing illicit drugs, particularly cannabis sativa.

The NDLEA aims to address drug-related crimes and combat terrorism by targeting drug production hubs. Marwa disclosed that the agency convicted 128 drug barons in the last five years and seized 15,000 tons of illicit substances, with 75% being cannabis sativa.

Ondo State, known for its high cannabis prevalence, has seen significant drug-related arrests and seizures. Governor Aiyedatiwa commended Marwa's efforts and pledged government support to eradicate illicit drug activities through alternative development programs.
