Dr. Amina Salihu Advocates for Gender Equity in Nigeria

Dr. Amina Salihu, a senior special assistant to the Federal Capital Territory Minister and a lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University, addresses the critical need for gender equity and social inclusion in Nigeria through her book aligned with the GESI framework.

Salihu, who holds a bachelor's and master's degree from Ahmadu Bello University and a PhD from the University of Abuja, argues that existing structures often hinder progress in achieving social equity. She highlights the importance of collaboration among organizations and the necessity of confronting systemic issues that perpetuate inequities.

Salihu's work emphasizes that funding and support should not solely credit individual achievements but recognize collective efforts in social change. She also acknowledges the constraints faced by programs, particularly regarding legal sensitivities around sexual orientation and gender identity, which complicate the implementation of the GESI framework.
