The Godfather of OPC?

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, claimed that the Nigerian President is of Yoruba origin, sparking a debate on Channels Television. An anonymous Nigerian scholar researching for a book interviewed an opinion leader who dismissed the idea of former President Obasanjo being the "godfather" of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) as laughable.

The scholar highlighted the deep cleavages in Nigerian politics and the exceptional detribalised Nigerian nationalist that Obasanjo represents. The OPC, described as a Yoruba nationalist vigilante organization, has been linked to Obasanjo's alleged support during his military regime.
