Olu of Warri Champions Peace Initiative Among Kings

A renewed initiative for peace in Warri has emerged, led by traditional rulers from the region. The Olu of Warri Kingdom, Ogiame Atuwatse III, alongside the Ovie of Agbarha Warri Kingdom, Ataneru Igbi II, and the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Owhotemu II, have been holding meetings focused on peacebuilding and harmonious coexistence among the three indigenous ethnic groups in Warri.

This shift follows years of violence and destruction in the area. During his 5th coronation anniversary on August 15, 2026, Ogiame Atuwatse III launched the Warri Unity Games, expressing hope that the event would highlight commonalities among the people and encourage a collective destiny.

On September 17, a private meeting in Abuja between the Olu and Orosuen addressed issues of peace and mutual respect, with both monarchs committing to responsible leadership and ongoing dialogue to maintain stability in Warri South.
