Atiku Abubakar Launches Seventh Presidential Bid

Waziri Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, is currently making his seventh attempt to become President, having previously contested six times since 1993. His first attempt was in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential primaries in 1993, where he lost to MKO Abiola.

In 2007, he ran as the Action Congress (AC) presidential candidate, finishing third behind Umaru Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari. He lost the People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries in 2011 to Goodluck Jonathan and again in 2015 to Muhammadu Buhari in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.

In 2019 and 2023, he was the PDP presidential candidate but lost both general elections to Buhari and Bola Tinubu, respectively. Atiku has been affiliated with seven political parties since entering politics in 1991, raising concerns about his political loyalty.

His actions, including attempts to undermine President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003, have been characterized as treachery and ingratitude.
