Over 1,000 Kenyans Deceived into Fighting for Russia

A recent revelation in Kenya's parliament disclosed that over 1,000 Kenyan citizens were misled into fighting for Russia in the Ukraine conflict, under the false pretense of securing employment abroad. These individuals signed contracts believing they would be paid for jobs, only to find themselves deployed in active battle zones.

Lawmakers, including parliamentary leader Kimani Ichung'wah, indicated that the scale of recruitment is much higher than previous government estimates. The recruits traveled to Russia via tourist visas, with routes through Istanbul and Abu Dhabi, as tighter checks at Nairobi airport forced them to reroute through other African countries.

Reports indicate that at least 39 Kenyans are currently receiving treatment in hospitals, while 28 are missing in action, with 89 believed to be fighting on the front lines. Kenya's Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi is expected to travel to Moscow next month to address concerns regarding the exploitation of vulnerable citizens in foreign wars.
