Three Anambra Security Operatives Charged with Firearms Offenses

On May 15, 2026, three members of the Agunechemba Local Security Outfit, Echezona Ezeonyejekw, Sundai Azuma, and Chinedu Nwakwo, were arraigned at the Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State. They are charged with unlawfully possessing three pump-action rifles, classified as prohibited firearms, without valid licenses, violating Section 3 punishable under Section 27(1) of the Firearms Act, Cap F28, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The charges stem from incidents occurring between September 9, 2025, and April 14, 2026, in Onitsha South Local Government Area. Additionally, they face conspiracy charges for allegedly causing malicious damage to properties valued at N700 million belonging to Sabest Uzor.

The defendants were remanded at Awka Correctional Centre pending further hearings. The Nigeria Police Force Zone 13 Command has been accused of undermining Anambra State's homeland security law in relation to the arrests and charges against the operatives.
