Ex-Governors Launch Committee to Reposition Abia State

Three ex-governors of Abia State—Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodor Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu—have formed a technical committee to reposition the state. The committee, inaugurated in Umuahia on Saturday, is led by Anthony Agbazuer, the former chief of staff to Ikpeazu.

This initiative follows a meeting held on January 9, 2026, and is part of a mandate from the three governors who ruled the state from 1999 to 2023. Kalu emphasized the importance of developing a blueprint for the state, which will be handed over to whoever emerges as the governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.

He also noted the recent electoral act that prevents indiscriminate party switching by politicians, which he believes is essential for restoring integrity to the electoral system. Additionally, Kalu expressed concerns about threats posed by members of the Abia Labour Party regarding a potential third term in the Senate.
