Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom Dominate Q1 Derivation Funds

In the first quarter of 2026, Delta, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom states collectively received approximately 75% of the N321.90 billion allocated to Nigeria's oil-producing states under the 13% derivation principle. Delta was the largest beneficiary, receiving N101.60 billion, followed by Bayelsa with N71.64 billion and Akwa Ibom with N69.39 billion.

Rivers ranked fourth with N46.09 billion, meaning these four states accounted for nearly 90% of the total derivation funds. Other states received significantly smaller amounts, with Ondo getting N9.39 billion, Edo N7.47 billion, Imo N7.39 billion, Abia N5.42 billion, and Anambra N3.49 billion.

Newer oil-producing states, Enugu and Kogi, received only N46,991 each. The distribution reflects the uneven production of crude oil in Nigeria, where states with larger oil fields receive higher revenues.

The constitution mandates a 13% derivation payment to oil-producing states, which is primarily based on production volumes.
