Tinubu to Lead 20-Year Development Summit in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and governors from the North-Central states will participate in a two-day summit scheduled for September 14 and 15, 2026, aimed at creating a 20-year economic, infrastructural, and social development plan for the region. The summit, the first of its kind, will take place in Abuja and is themed ‘The Great Leap Forward: A 20-Year Economic, Infrastructural and Social Development Plan for the North-Central Region.’ Former Heads of State, including Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, are also expected to attend.

Dr. Makut Macham, Head of Media and Corporate Communications of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), stated that the summit will gather various stakeholders, including political leaders, traditional rulers, and private sector representatives, to address development challenges in the region. Dr. Cosmas Akighir, Chairman of the NCDC, emphasized the need for a strategic platform to examine the region's development opportunities, while Dr. Cyril Tsenyil, Managing Director/CEO of the NCDC, noted the summit's alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu's administration.
