Tinubu: Military Force Alone Can't Secure North Central

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the 2026 North Central Regional Security Summit in Makurdi, Benue State, asserting that military force alone is insufficient to secure the North Central region. Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Tinubu called for a collaborative approach involving governments, security agencies, traditional and religious institutions, communities, and the private sector.

He highlighted that insecurity transcends state boundaries and is exacerbated by factors such as competition over land and water, climate change, and the proliferation of illicit weapons. Tinubu acknowledged the military's significant gains against terrorism and criminal elements but stressed that military operations can only suppress violence without addressing underlying grievances.

He noted that his administration is enhancing the national security architecture and improving the welfare of security personnel while combining military operations with developmental interventions to restore stability in the region.
