Tinubu Announces Major Salary Hike for Military Personnel

On Tuesday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced that President Tinubu has approved a salary increase for military personnel, effective September 1. Approximately 250,000 personnel will benefit from this new arrangement.

Officers above the rank of colonel, including Brigadier-Generals, Major-Generals, Lieutenant Generals, and Generals, will receive a 30% salary increase. Personnel from colonel down to warrant officer will see a 50% increase, while those ranked from Private to Staff Sergeant will enjoy an 80% increase.

This new pay package will elevate the yearly wage bill from N660 billion to N924 billion. Onanuga emphasized that President Tinubu recognizes the courage and sacrifices of the armed forces in combating banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

He stated that the administration prioritizes troop welfare and aims to modernize the armed forces with necessary tools and technology to ensure national security.
