Tinubu Mourns Presidential Media Aide Peter Onwubuariri

Peter Onwubuariri, the Assistant Director of Media at the Presidential Villa, died on Monday in Kano at the age of 48 after undergoing treatment for approximately a month at the Kano Cancer Hospital. His wife, Catherine Ezinna, confirmed his death, and his remains were released from the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for burial in Owerri, Imo State.

Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, spokesman for Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, handed over the corpse to Oche Egwa, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House. President Bola Tinubu expressed his grief in a statement issued on September 8, 2026, by Bayo Onanuga, stating that the loss was deeply felt across the Presidency, the media community, and the nation.

Tinubu extended condolences to Onwubuariri's wife, their three children, and his extended family, praying for their strength. Onwubuariri was a veteran journalist and had served as NAN's North American correspondent before his posting to the Presidential Villa in 2014, covering various significant issues throughout his career.
