Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, PDP Leader, Dies at 90

Alhaji (Dr.) Bamanga Tukur, the Tafida of Adamawa, died at the age of 90 on September 12, 2026, at his residence in Abuja, two days before his 91st birthday. His media aide, Chief Victor Okpala, confirmed the news in a statement.

Tukur, a significant figure in Nigeria's democratic history, served as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was known for bringing stability and progress to the party. He was also a former Governor of old Gongola State and held the position of Managing Director and later Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, where he oversaw the construction of many ports.

Additionally, he was the first African to address the United Nations General Assembly as a private individual. His family plans to bury him in Adamawa according to Islamic rites.

Tukur is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
