Tinubu Directs Fund Release for Regional Commissions

On Monday, President Bola Tinubu directed George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, to ensure the timely release of all funds approved for regional commissions. This directive was made at the North Central Development Commission Summit, themed “The Great Leap Forward: A 20-Year Economic Infrastructure and Social Development Plan for the North Central Region.” Tinubu stated that the creation of regional development commissions aligns with the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at accelerating national development.

He urged the commissions to seek additional funding through public-private partnerships and donor financing, while focusing on critical areas such as transportation, industrialization, security, and human capital development. The President warned against corruption and misuse of resources, stating that such actions would lead to sanctions.

He clarified that the commissions are not meant to replace state or local government functions and should assist in addressing regional security challenges.
