Tinubu Orders Action on Benin-Agbor-Asaba Road Crisis

On August 26, 2023, President Bola Tinubu ordered the Federal Ministry of Works to take urgent action regarding the deteriorating condition of the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road, which has caused severe gridlock, leaving motorists and commuters stranded for days. This directive follows public outcry over the highway's condition, which has disrupted movement between Edo and Delta states and delayed the transportation of goods.

Minister of Works David Umahi stated that he would personally oversee the intervention, having already begun implementing the President's directive. He arrived in Benin, Edo State, on Tuesday, August 22, with members of the National Assembly Works Committees to assess the situation and discuss remedial measures.

The intervention will involve representatives from the Edo and Delta State governments and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The gridlock has resulted in significant hardship for road users, with some abandoning their vehicles.

Umahi accepted responsibility on behalf of the Ministry and assured that immediate steps would be taken to restore movement while seeking permanent solutions.
