Tinubu Urged to Form Taskforce for Finima Resettlement

HRH Asem Alabo Dagogo Lambert Brown, the monarch of Finima in Bonny Local Government Area, Rivers State, has urged President Bola Tinubu to create a special task force to tackle unresolved resettlement issues affecting the community. This appeal was made during an event commemorating the June 10 anniversary of a 2021 attack on Finima residents, which was linked to protests against alleged neglect by Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG).

The monarch emphasized the need for justice and proper resettlement, asserting the community's rights as the host of the NLNG project. He lamented the abandonment of the resettlement project and outlined several outstanding commitments from NLNG, including waste management and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons.

Despite existing infrastructure, residents continue to face hardships, and legal actions have been taken against NLNG regarding unresolved lease agreements. The monarch expressed disappointment over NLNG's lack of dialogue with the community and insisted on greater participation in the benefits derived from the project.
