Tinubu Calls for Unity Against Insecurity at Summit

On Monday, President Bola Tinubu addressed the 2026 North-Central Regional Security Summit in Makurdi, Benue State, urging traditional and religious leaders, communities, youths, women, development partners, and the private sector to collaborate with the government and security agencies to combat insecurity. Represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Tinubu emphasized the role of these leaders as early warning systems and voices of reconciliation.

He called for intelligence sharing with security agencies and discouraged shielding criminals due to kinship. Tinubu noted that insecurity transcends state boundaries and requires collective action from all sectors.

He highlighted his administration's efforts to strengthen the security architecture through collaboration among the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, and intelligence services, alongside improvements in troop welfare and capabilities. The President identified factors sustaining violent conflicts, such as land and water struggles, climate change, and the proliferation of illicit weapons, stressing the need to address these underlying issues for lasting peace.
