ADC Critiques Tinubu's $1bn Social Programme as Election Tactic

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the Federal Government's announcement of a $1 billion social protection programme, labeling it a panic reaction to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar's proposal for targeted production subsidies aimed at reducing living costs if elected. ADC's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration has impoverished millions of Nigerians through ineffective economic policies and is now attempting to "buy them back" with hastily arranged palliatives before the elections.

The ADC questioned the sudden availability of funds after three years of hardship for Nigerians and demanded clarity on the programme's financing and the involvement of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The statement highlighted that the government had previously claimed there was no money to alleviate the economic burden on citizens, raising concerns about the timing of this announcement just before elections.
