Traditionalists Petition Oyo Governor Over BCOS Discrimination

Traditionalists in Oyo State have raised concerns regarding alleged religious discrimination by the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) against representatives of the Ifa religion. Mr.

Dotun Olaitan, a traditionalist, accused BCOS of disrespecting the Ifa religion during an interfaith prayer program, which was attended by various religious leaders. Mr.

Kunle Sobaloju submitted a petition to Governor Seyi Makinde on June 2, 2026, highlighting that the actions of BCOS's leadership, particularly in excluding Ifa representatives, violated constitutional rights and principles of religious coexistence. The petition cites sections 38 and 42 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, which guarantee freedom of religion and prohibit discrimination based on religion.

Traditionalists are urging the governor to investigate the matter and take disciplinary action against BCOS staff involved in the alleged discrimination, emphasizing the need for respect and inclusion of all religious beliefs in public institutions.
